Working Parents and Sick Kids
I end up staying home with him anyway. My job is VERY important, but my son's good health is important too.
stay home with my baby, but soon i fear my employer will fire me. this does not work well because i am neither a great employee or mother.
I will try to do the best things that i suppose to do to get my child to gain his/her normal health so that they will fill alright.
Actully, I'm quite fortunate. My employer is understanding about this. He tells me to use my sick days when my children are sick! Tomorrow I need to take my 22 month old son to the Speech Pathologist and my employer told me not to use a vacation day - but use 1/2 a sick day.
im doing an assignment on childcare and i was wondering if anyone has or knows of where i can find information on why mothers decided to put their child into childcare??
In really tight situations (I work in payroll) I take half a day off, and my husband takes the other half off. I agree with Melissa--this makes me neither a great mother, nor a great employee.
If I cannot stay home with him, then he goes to Grandma's house.
I work for a nationally-known organization that is an advocate for children's health. Last year, my daughter got a kidney infection that landed her in the hospital. It happened right before our semi-annual, out-of-town meeting so I stayed home to be with my daughter in the hospital because we weren't sure what the outcome would be. Some of my colleagues (the ones without children) were actually mad at me because they had to do some of my work during that time! Can you believe that? Nobody said anything to me, but I got the cold treatment for a couple of months after that! I've had similar experiences at other jobs. Now that my chldren are in middle school, I sometimes have to leave them home by themselves if they're not seriously ill. It bothers me but there's nothing else I can do. If they're very sick, I stay home with them and have told my employer up front that's what I must do. I never have enough sick time for myself or vacation time to really take a vacation (due to school holiday coverage). I think working parents should get a few extra sick and vacation days based on the number of children they have and their ages.
