What are some useful gift ideas for the children and childcare providers in their lives?

Copper cookie cutter with gourmet flavored extracts of almond or vanilla in small decorative bag tied with bow and two vanilla beans. I did this for my daycare providers.

12-16 year old girl: The new polaroid I-Zone Sticker camera WWW.discoverstore.com under the Toy & Games section. Ratings are great.

I like to make cookies or brownies in a jar. I put all the dry ingredients in a mason jar. I layer each item and make it look colorful. I than put a nice piece of material on the top tie it with a ribbon and attach a recipe card to the ribbon. I place several jars in a basket lined with a holiday dish towel.

For childcare providers, how about a day at the spa, a massage, manicure & pedicure - something to pamper themselves with and to help them relax after looking after the wee ones all week. Usually, these people are not overwhelmingly well-paid and would never dream of spending money on something so self-indulgent and well-deserved!

As for kids, well, my daughter is now a teenager (help!)... clothes, gift certificates and nice make-up in soft colours. Last year, I gave her a make-up lesson with a professional so she would learn how to wear make-up tastefully and what it's SUPPOSED to look like. She loved it, it wasn't too expensive and now she knows how to apply make-up sparingly to enhance, not obliterate, her best features. As always, gift certificates are a winner. And, although my daughter doesn't always seem thrilled at the time, when I can make something for her (flannel pj pants take about an hour and cost about $10 if you make them), it means a lot.
