Half Way ThereOver the last few weeks, I have managed to hit two distinct milestones in my eating plan:
Reaching the half way point has been a huge motivator for me. I can actually visualize the long, steep mountain I have been climbing, see myself making it over the top, and almost feel how much easier the downhill slide is. I realize that this doesn't mean that I can alter the way I've been eating for the last seven months. In fact, it means that I need to continue to eat this way as it has been so successful. I have also been revisiting my original weight loss goal. I'm not sure how realistic it is, and rather than becoming obsessed with a number on the scale, I've decided to strive towards a clothing size that I look good wearing. At 6 feet tall, a size 16 looks and feels quite comfortable on me. Quite honestly, I'm not sure what numerical weight value will correspond with that size, so I've decided to make the size my goal rather than the number on the scale. I cannot tell you the shear joy I experienced when I tried on my first pair of size 18 pants and they actually fit. There are so many little exciting things that happen when you leave the "plus" sizes. I can now shop (for the most part) in the "normal" clothes area. I can find pants without elastic in the waistband. I'm not bombarded with polyester and I even have a decent selection of stylish clothes to chose from. I was like a kid in a candy store!! I have also (finally) begun focusing on the physical exercise portion of my plan. I purchased a family membership at the YMCA and now visit at least three times per week. I now have a "personal trainer" and a 12-week fitness program. The YMCA offers free childcare while I work out, and Cameron and I spend at least an hour after my workout working on his fitness as well. For all of you who are concerned about affording a membership at a club, the YMCA is a great alternative. Not only are their dues reasonable, but they offer financial assistance/scholarships to anyone who needs the help. They are willing to work with almost any budget. It's been almost seven months since I first took on this goal. At the time it seemed like such a long shot Š how in the world was I going to make this happen. I now know that I can make it happen, and that the benefits are many. I've seen my cholesterol go from 214 to 165, I have found energy that I had always wanted, and I feel better about myself and my other life goals. Hard project? Definitely! Worth it? Without a doubt!!
