Another Victory, Of Sorts

Woo Hoo!! I made it through vacation with only a 0.5-lb. gain!

I know, usually I would be down in the dumps about a weight gain, but this one was good for three reasons:

  • It was a minimal gain, not one that couldn't be resolved within a week.
  • I gave myself permission to eat whatever I wanted while I was on vacation, and I didn't feel "healthy" eating the way I was.
  • I flew home on a Friday and was promptly back on my eating plan Saturday morning.

I must admit, I'm not quite sure how I managed such a small gain. I went absolutely crazy with food. It didn't help that I haven't seen so much food in one place since my days in the Army. Sure, there were healthy/low fat choices, but the cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting were calling my name ... and I ate them!

This really was a huge success for me. I have battled with food most of my life, and the food has always been victorious. I came to the realization this past week that I was actually giving power to an inanimate object. The food had no power. But I was most certainly giving it the power to control my health. How simple right? Just take control of the food rather than letting it control you? It's taken me six months to figure that out, and I'll most likely be reminding myself of that for the rest of my life.

I feel that the past few weeks have been a test to my resilience and determination to lose weight, and I finally passed the test.
