Book Review: The Single Mother's Book: A Practical Guide to Managing Your Children, Career, Home, Finances, and Everything ElseAuthor: Joan Anderson Review by Susan Farrell This book looked to be a cover-all handbook for single mothers. It is organized well, with short, brief chapters on each topic, including:
The chapters, however, are indeed brief and very generalized. This book would be a great resource for a newly divorced or separated single mom, as it covers a list of topics that we often don't think about when becoming a single parent, and often aren't sure where to begin.
For those who've been a single parent for a while, as they will have encountered much of it already and will perhaps smile and shake their head in familiar acknowledgment, it is a good overview and checklist of things we often become too busy to stop and check on in our lives, though it doesn't cover matters in any great depth or offer much advice that would be new. We can all use a reminder however, to stop and think, review and check where we are in life. Susan Farrell is the single mother of two teenagers. Her many hobbies include writing, reading, gardening, cooking, traveling and camping, and trying new things with her children. Her motto: "Live, love, laugh." Life's just too short not to.
