List Rules

Helpful hint
Need to unsub?
• Do you have a list you
  want us to host?

Before you subscribe to one of our lists, it is important that you take a few minutes to read the list rules and guidelines. MomsRefuge is proud of the supportive community that has developed on our lists, and feel that it is important to protect that sense of refuge and support here through these guidelines. These lists are publicly accessible but privately owned, so the List Moms always reserve the right to enforce the list rules to maintain the lists' integrity, ambience, and sense of supportive community.

1.  Be supportive and helpful
This community is meant as a supportive lifeline for Moms around the world. Please add to it in a positive way.

2.  No commercial or self-promotional business postings
That means, no telling us about the wonderful opportunity, service, product, or Web site you have to offer us. (The only exception to this is the Work at Home Moms list on WAHM.com -- you may post a once-a-month ad on that list for your home-based business)

3.  No flames
We talk about a lot of personal issues that often elicit great differences of opinion and world view. Please do not let these differences in perspective degenerate into personal attacks. We encourage spirited discussion and debate, but please remember that disagreeing with an idea is different from attacking an individual. The List Mom reserves the right to halt a discussion that has become abusive or disruptive to a supportive community.

4.  Honor privacy
Messages posted on the lists may not be forwarded, quoted, copied or distributed without the express written permission of the author of the post. Collection of e-mail addresses or personal information of list members is absolutely forbidden.

5.  Keep the bandwidth down
Many of these tend to be high traffic lists, to streamline their use follow these guidelines:

  • Use the digest form if you only want 1 or 2 long posts in a day rather than 50-80 individual e-mails.
  • Make the "subject" line appropriate for the message. Change the "subject" line of your message when you change the topic.
  • Don't quote the whole message when replying to a post. If you must include any of the previous message, quote only an appropriate line or two. This is critical when replying to the digest. Its a bear to get a whole digest back to the list.
  • Use appropriate labels to posts: NEWS, OT (off-topic), LONG, HUMOR or CTTD or CTTS ("cute things they do/say" which are cute stories about our children).
  • Do not send HTML mail. It can cause problems with some people's e-mail software. How do you turn off HTML mail? Here are instructions.
  • Do not send attachments to the list.
  • Do not send virus warnings, chain letters, newsletters from other Web sites, long humor pieces forwarded from other lists, etc. Our lists are for direct personal discussion.
