Cassie,
If neither of you feel like doing all the work, it doesn't get done. I often tell working moms that they shouldn't sweat the small stuff. No one has ever died from having dust under the bed or a perfectly neat house. When you're juggling, a lot of things just don't get done and you learn to live with it. The trick is to focus on what's really important and not to feel guilty about the rest.
A friend of mine with twin boys had a problem when they were around 6 or 7. The boys and their dad always used the half-bath they had to take a leak. And they very often missed. So the bathroom always smelled like a urinal. Marsha decided that she was not about to clean it because it was clearly THEIR mess. She simply told them that since they always messed it up, it was their responsibility to clean it. Guess what. After a couple of weeks (that is a long time), dad and the boys spent an hour on Saturday cleaning the bathroom. Now they do it every week. Lesson learned.
Good luck.
Working together we can make a difference.
